Moto Turbo Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Update Now Rolling out in India

Released in March last year, the Moto Turbo (XT1225) in India has yet to receive the Marshmallow update. However, its owners don’t have to wait any longer, as Motorola is now rolling out Android 6.0.1 in the country.
Even though the Moto Turo (which was a variant of Verizon’s Droid Turbo) is a high-end phone, the Indian owners were left behind when it came to the Marshmallow update, even though lower-end devices such as the 3rd gen Moto G received the update a while ago. I remind you that Moto Turbo packs a 5.2-inch Quad HD AMOLED panel, a Snapdragon 805 SoC, 3 GB RAM, 21 MP main camera, 64 GB of storage, and a massive 3,900 mAh battery.
Since Marshmallow comes with quite a few improvements and changes, I see why the Moto Turbo owners were so eager to get it installed on their phones. I remind you that Android 6.0.1 introduces a new app permissions system which enables apps to ask for permissions before accessing certain features of your phone, Google Now On Tap which reads what’s on your phone’s screen and pulls out relevant information about the content, Doze Mode which improves the battery life by putting apps in a deep sleep state, new emoji, Chrome Custom Tabs for faster in-app webpage loading, Direct Share for faster and smarter sharing with the people you contact more often, Deep Linking so your phone learns which apps to choose for various links and files, automatic app data backup, improved Do Not Disturb Mode with custom rules, enhanced Notifications panel and Quick Settings, and more.
As the norm is with software updates, the Moto Turbo Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update is being pushed to the Indian owners in phases, meaning it would take a while until it reaches everyone. When your terminal is ready to receive the OTA update a message should appear in the notifications panel. Tap on it, choose ‘Download now’, wait until the download is completed, then select ‘Install now’. Your phone should automatically reboot and flash the new firmware. In case the system update notification failed to appear, then you can also check for the update manually under Settings > About phone > System updates > Check now.
You might also want to know that the Marshmallow update file could have a size of over 1 GB, therefore you would want to download it using a WiFi network. Also, make sure that your phone’s battery is above 50% as a shut down during the installation could cause it to brick.
